About & Welcome

The JC Penny and the Sears camera catalogs of the 1950s initiated my interest in things photographic.  Then an adolescent in Boonville, Missouri, I eagerly awaited November's free copies and perused their inviting pages for hours. Wanting more than my parent's box camera, in 1960 I purchased a Praktica FX2, an early 35mm SLR that I still display and admire.

This introduction, however, foreshadowed a problem, my seduction by the allure of photographic equipment.  It took a long time to recognize the truth of a comment by noted Colorado landscape photographer John Fielder that a camera contributes to about 10% of a photograph's quality.   Similarly, Brooks Jensen, editor of Lenswork, has said that a camera is to a photographer what a typewriter is to a writer.  We live and learn.

Photography is just plain fun.  From a first glance at a possible subject, to the software editing of an image for a screen or frame, its always a satisfying experience.  Although I wish I had the confidence to more often photograph people, I favor landscapes, as evident here.

Welcome.  Thank you for visiting, and I hope you enjoy what you see.
